Help for researchers

Answers to common questions about running studies on Populiva. Can't find what you need? Contact us at the bottom of this page.

Getting started

Create your lab from the researcher sign-up page. Labs with a .edu email are verified as academic automatically; other academic and nonprofit labs are verified by our team. Every lab member uses two-factor authentication.

Funding and fees

Add funds by PayPal or request an invoice to pay by bank transfer. When you launch a study, its full cost (rewards plus the platform fee) is reserved from your balance; anything unused returns when the study closes.

Building a study

Paste your survey link; we add PARTICIPANT_ID, STUDY_ID, and SESSION_ID to it. Choose who can take part with screeners, quotas, participation filters, and groups, then use Test as a participant to check your redirect before launching. You can add completion codes that approve, reject, or screen out automatically.

Reviewing submissions

Approve or reject each submission with a reason. Submissions you don't review within the study's review period (7 days by default) are approved automatically. Participants can appeal a rejection within 14 days; you have 7 days to respond.

Quality and fraud

Each submission shows its quality evidence and flags. If we confirm fraud, you're refunded automatically for the past 90 days. Issue a signed provenance report for your paper or IRB at any time after launch.

Data and privacy

You see anonymous PARTICIPANT_IDs, never names or emails. After a study closes you can delete its participant-level data from the study page.

API

Create API tokens and webhooks from your lab's Developer page. The docs are at populiva.com/developers.
