Participant Agreement

This agreement explains how taking part in research on Populiva works. Please read it before you activate your account.

AI tasks

Some studies ask for work that trains or evaluates artificial intelligence (AI), such as comparing two responses, rating answers, or rewriting text. These studies are marked on your study list, and you only see them if you turn on AI tasks in your account.

When you complete an AI task, you agree that the researcher may use your answers to train, evaluate, and improve AI systems, and may keep using them after the study. Your answers are shared with the researcher under your anonymous ID, never with your name or email.

Some AI tasks contain sensitive content, such as violence or self-harm. You only see those if you opt into each category, and you can skip any item that upsets you without penalty. You can turn AI tasks or any category off at any time; it doesn't affect work you've already done.

Who can take part

You must be 18 or older and live in the United States. You may have only one Populiva account.

Taking part is voluntary

You choose which studies to take, and you can stop a study or leave Populiva at any time. Taking part in studies doesn't make you an employee of Populiva or of any researcher.

Pay

Each study shows its reward and expected time before you start. Studies pay at least $10 an hour based on that expected time.

Researchers approve or reject each submission. A rejection must give one of our listed reasons. Approved earnings become available after a short hold.

Honest participation and quality checks

Answer honestly and pay attention. We check devices and networks on our pages, and some studies include attention checks.

Using more than one account, someone else's identity, or automated tools to take studies is fraud. We may close the account, withhold unpaid earnings for fraudulent submissions, and refund the researchers affected.

Payouts and taxes

You're paid through PayPal, to one PayPal account in your name. You can cash out once your available balance reaches $5, subject to our safety limits.

Research payments are taxable income, and you're responsible for reporting them. If you earn $2,000 or more from Populiva in a year, we'll ask for a W-9 and send you a 1099.

Your data

Researchers see a random ID and only the profile answers their study screened on, never your name or contact details. Our privacy policy explains the rest.
