Getting paid

Approved earnings are held for 72 hours as a fraud check, then become available. Researchers have 7 days to review your work; if they don't, it's approved automatically.

Cash out to the PayPal account you connected, from $5.00, once a day. For your security, cash-outs wait 72 hours after you connect PayPal, and between your first few cash-outs.

Every study pays at least $10 an hour based on its estimated time.

Taxes and the W-9

Research payments are taxable income. Once you've been paid $1,500 in a year we'll ask for a W-9, and any cash-out that would take you to $2,000 waits until it's on file, because we report payments of $2,000 or more to the IRS on a 1099.

Rejections, screen-outs, and appeals

Researchers can reject a submission for a stated reason, such as failing attention checks. If you think a rejection was a mistake, you can appeal it within 14 days from your study list. The researcher has 7 days to answer; if they don't, our team decides. An upheld appeal is paid.

Some studies screen people out partway through when they aren't the right fit. Screen-outs are paid a smaller amount for your time and never count against you.

Each study has a time limit. If time runs out, your place goes back to the pool; if you finished anyway, message the researcher with your SESSION_ID.

Your account and studies

Studies open to you once your PayPal account is connected and verified by PayPal. The more of your profile you fill in, including the optional questions, the more studies you'll see.

We email you when new studies are open to you, at most 3 a day. You can turn this off from your account page.

Your privacy

Researchers never see your name or email. They see an anonymous ID that's different for each lab, and only the profile answers a study tells you it shares before you start. Messages with researchers are encrypted.

You can ask us to delete your data at any time. We keep payment and tax records as long as the law requires.
